Colonial Spirits" Hand-Picked Single Barrel Bourbon(s)

Bourbons are all the rage these days, especially Single Barrel Bourbon. These unique offerings are hyper-focused on nuances that barrels impart. Each barrel has its own unique characteristic that is conveyed in the Bourbon which is why most bottles have batch and barrel numbers printed on them. Barrels are a great tool as they can mask flaws, soften "hot" mashes, and sweeten when necessary. That is why in the right hands, Single Barrel Bourbon can be unforgettable.
We take joy and pride in picking out Single Barrel Bourbon because it gives us an opportunity to showcase our palate. Picking a single barrel allows us to develop a house style. What is our house style? Balance. Looking to strike a balance between flavor, body, and ABV all of

This tasting will be HUGE. Every year we gather up all the Pumpkin and Oktoberfest beers we can get our hands on and have a grand tasting showcasing the whole lot.  We are opening over 50 kinds of beer from brewers near and far.  We have many Oktoberfest beers from Germany as well as from all around the US.  We have Pumpkin porters, pumpkin ales, and pumpkin ciders that will satisfy any lover of all things pumpkin.  We will be grilling up bratwurst as well and all of this is completely FREE!  This is our biggest tasting of the year and an event that will be both informative and fun.    This will be an all-hands-on-deck tasting.  Everyone here will be helping with the tasting, so it is a nice time to come out and interact with our staff.  R

Goose Island Bourbon County Vintage Tasting

With all the Goose Island fever going around here at Colonial, what better way to end it all that with our biggest tasting of them all.  On December 7th, starting at 6pm, we will be opening bottles of Bourbon County Brand Stout, Coffee, and Barleywine going back to at least 2013.  While we are keeping the line up close to the chest for a while, I will divulge that we will be opening some special bottles from previous years.  Which ones?  How old?  There is only one way of finding out.  This was a very popular event last year, so make sure to keep an eye out for that special Hop on the Bus email.  Like last year, you will have to RSVP and pay for your ticket.  Space was very limited last year with only 20 spots and it is looking like that w

Goose Island Wild Ale #2

We did this back in October and it was a lot of fun.  So much fun that we decided to do it all over again.  December 2nd, starting at 6pm, we will be opening bottles of Sofie and Matilda from this year as well as bottles of Lolita, Juliet, Halia, Madame Rose, and Gillian all from 2015. With wild ales like these, we found that giving them a year to sit and mellow out was the right call, so we"re doing it again.  Keep an eye out for an email in which you can RSVP to.  This was a fun, relaxed tasting in which we had some fun with some very nice, rather expensive beers.  It is a great opportunity to try a $30 bottle of fruit added sour ale without paying the $30 price tag.  It does hurt that instead of one, we will be tasting five.

GOOSE ISLAND BLACK FRIDAY!!

For the second year in a row we will host the Goose Island Black Friday Bourbon Country release.  This was a huge success last year and we don"t see why it won"t be again.  Here is how it will work.  We will be opening our doors at 9am on Friday, November 25th.  Once the doors open, we will be funneling people into our tasting room where we will have the Barleywine, Coffee, and whatever else they bring into Massachusetts.  We will have a bottle limit on the variants due to the limited inventory that comes into the state.  It will be first come, first serve, so I would recommend getting here early.  Last year the first people showed up around 5:30am, so I would try to get here early.  We will have a limit on the Brand Stout, but if it is an

Goose Island Wild Ales

Goose Island has been taking over tap lines all over the place and takes over at the end of the year with Bourbon County.  What is probably their least known, or maybe better would be least tried, line up is their collection of Belgian-inspired wild ales.  So on October 27th, we will have a tasting to spotlight these beers.  We will do ALL of the wild ales.  Considering they range from $10-$32, this tasting is a rare opportunity to taste all of these back to back.

We will be opening Sofie, Matilda, Lolita, Halia, Gillian, Juliet, and Madame Rose.

For the first time in our history, we will be sampling through the 19 Crimes wine lineup which includes 19 Crimes Red Blend, 19 Crimes Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Warden Red Blend. Masciarelli Wines w/ John

How long has it been since we have been having these regularly occurring wine tastings with John? Years. John is both a Portfolio Manager and Sales Rep for Masciarelli Wine Co. so you can say he knows a thing or two about wine. But, unlike many wine experts, John doesn"t throw his knowledge around as a way of intimidating you. Instead, he consoles you and guides you through his wines in a manner that allows you to grasp and understand what tastes you are trying. We are not all cut out to be connoisseurs, but it is nice when someone like John can make tasting wine a fun and relaxing experience versus a stressful one.

If you have not yet met John or have tried his wines, this is the opportunity to do so.

Santa Maria la Palma - "Aragosta" Vermentino

This white wine, Aragosta Vermentino, made entirely from the Vermentino grape, is grown on the coast of Sardinia, by Santa Maria la Palma, where seafood is taken very seriously.

Delicately fruity, and easy to drink, it has fragrances of aromatic herbs and wonderfully refreshing acidity.

This wine pairs spectacularly with seafood, especially shellfish, but don"t let that stop you from just sipping it, or pairing it with a wide variety of salads, cheeses, or grilled chicken as well.

And it"s pretty good with Netflix too!

Hardwick Vineyard and Winery w/ Brian

With every state now officially producing wine, the real question becomes, how do you stand out? While some wineries stick to the tried and true, others work with what is available. Hardwick Vineyard is the latter. Hardwick is Massachusetts grown from vineyards to bottle. Producing an array of wines that take advantage of indigenous grape varietals and produce (cranberry and blueberry), Hardwick is rolling through at full charge. These wines may not be your typical Chardonnay, Cabernet, and Merlot, but when has Massachusetts ever flowed with the current. The wines may be unusual or, at the very least, different, but one thing holds true and that is they are all well made.

Loire Valley Wine Weekend

Do a Google search on the Loire Valley and, regardless of the main topic, you’re likely to find that the most common term used to describe the region is “diversity.” From the river’s source in the central mountainous Massif Centrale, to its mouth at the Bay of Biscay some 620 miles to the west, the region is rich in biological, environmental, architectural, agricultural and historical abundance, making the Loire Valley one of the most popular regional tourist destinations in France.

That being the case, it should come as no surprise that, of all of the country’s viticultural regions, the Loire produces the greatest diversity of white, red and pink sparkling and still wine styles. Interestingly, the region’s winemakers, who represent th

It comes from Oltrepò Pavese in northwest Italy, the true home of Barbera. The vineyards are south of Piedmont in Lombardy, affording the grapes a little more sunshine and warmth. So what you get in your glass is a little richer and more unctuous.

2014 Tire Bouchon by Domaine D"Ouréa Vin de France

2014 Tire Bouchon by Domaine D"Ouréa Vin de France

We always harp on about buying the most affordable wines from the best producers. It makes a lot of sense. The grapes often come from the exact same vineyards as the top cuvées, and are farmed, harvested, and vinified using the same methods. Usually, the only differences are in the ages of the vines, the yields, and the aging regime. Granted, these are important contrasts, but there is no question you can get the gist of an estate’s style from the entry level.

This time, we have a bonus. Not only do we have the entry level from a top grower, but we think we are far enough out in front of this one that a year or two from now, this wine will seem like an absolute steal.

Copos Nature by Cellers Unio: An Organic Red that Puts Shame to Many

It’s no secret that Catalonia has got it going on. A roughly triangular region in Spain"s far north-east corner, Catalonia is separated by the Pyrenean Mountains from southern France, with which it has close historical ties. With a distinct history stretching back to the 11th century, many Catalans think of themselves as a separate nation from the rest of Spain. In fact, the Catalonian language is entrenched in the laws enacted by the local Parliament.
